Susan Verbrugge began her ministry with Glade Church in January 2015. She is ordained in the Presbyterian Church USA and can also serve a United Church of Christ congregation. In August 2001, the United Church of Christ, the Presbyterian Church USA, the Reformed Church in America, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America agreed to recognize one another’s ministries and sacraments. This means that the minister in one of these denominations can preach and officiate at the Lord’s Supper in another.
After graduating from high school in Boone, North Carolina, she attended Wake Forest University (WFU) and graduated with a BA in English…with lots of history and religion classes under her belt too. Soon after graduating, she married her husband Ross. After working with abused and neglected children for a few years in Athens, Georgia and Atlanta, she felt a call from God to attend seminary. She attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia where she received her Masters in Divinity. She was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in August 2001. Her first call was to Blacksburg Presbyterian Church where she served as Associate Pastor for thirteen years.
Susan loves to read, hike, knit, cook, garden (or play in the dirt as she calls it), watch good movies, laugh, play with her dog, Deacon, and two cats, Comet and Gonzo, and spend time with her family which these days mostly means watching her kids play basketball, lacrosse, and soccer or serving as their taxi driver to and from various activities.
Susan is excited to see what God has in store for her and Glade together.
