This gallery -- which opened the weekend before Montgomery County's Relay for Life -- focused on art as a means to health, healing, and wholeness.

A gallery of light in dark spaces
The gallery was presented in conjunction with [classified]: untold stories of Virginia Tech, a new play based on true stories that is an artistic and activist reponse to issues of safety and harassment in the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg communities. The gallery featured local artists' works representing life in Southwest Virginia.

The phrase is taken from chapter 34 of Ernest Hemingway's 1929 novel, A Farewell to Arms: "The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places."

"Monochromatic Harmony: The Diversity of One"
Artists were asked to use only one color with variations of tone, tint, and texture.

"Singing the Song of Life: A Journey of Light and Shadow"
The theme was adapted from a quote attributed to Kathryn Hepburn; artists were encouraged to create work related to a favorite musical work.
